Its implementation. President Trump may have made some good decisions here and there, willy nilly. But many are questionable, in my eyes. The President of the United States is an entrusted servant, he does not govern. The office is not meant to serve the vanity of a single man.
As for the slogan, “Make America Great Again,” I am all for it. If indeed we have lost our way as a nation, then regaining our competitive advantage is undoubtedly important. And even if it were not true, I would submit that our country’s greatness should be doubly preserved and doubly protected.
As a constituent who identifies himself as “center-left,” I can see a good idea wherever it may be, even if it is on the right. As for my fellow Democrats, I believe that the only way we can defeat the Republicans is at the ballot box, not through impeachment hearings. We just need to come up with a better slogan and a better candidate. Just vote the guy out of office!
As for my Republican colleagues on the other side of the aisle, I encourage them to do some introspective soul-searching. Is the implementation of MAGA going the right way? Or is it going horribly wrong? Only they can save us from ourselves, by thinking this through.
Of course, there still is, I believe, a “silent majority” out there, who is quietly seeing with their own eyes, and quietly listening with their own ears. The airwaves are filled with far-right and far-left propaganda, but the American people will take sides, and will stop being neutral, and will make their voice heard, not be blasting slogans, but by heading to the ballot box.
Let us remember what Lincoln and Douglas talked about in 1858: “You can fool some of the people all of the time. And you can fool all of the people some of the time. But you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” I believe that rang true then. And I believe that rings true now! Let us have faith in our system of government, and the wisdom of our founding fathers.
