Regarding men, with their bellicose, aggressive nature, that kind of personality type may not be best in an office where reconciliation and coalition-building are more appropriate. The President is an entrusted servant; he does not govern. The Office of the President should unite the nation under one person, not serve the vanity of a single man.
Don’t get me wrong. A female President would have to be very tough-minded to deal with, say, war in the Middle East. But the expression of kind-heartedness towards those who only know hatred, animosity, and revenge may change things for the better. In the Middle East, the older generation teaches the younger generation how to hate. And the younger generation does not know any better. So, the cycle of violence and hatred is perpetuated with each and every successive generation that comes of age. And by the way, folks, this has been going on for millennia. And there is no end in sight.
As a man, I tend to be tough-minded; less so am I kind-hearted. Women tend to be kind-hearted; less so are they tough-minded. Not always, but as a general rule, there is some truth to the matter. Balancing the two is where understanding exists, and the harmony resides between men and women. So, where is the seat of moral conviction? Being tough-minded or kind-hearted? Both, of course! You have to integrate the two!
If we could envision a female President, could we not envision a Jewish President? Or an Asian President? Or a Hispanic President? Of course! Ours is a progressive country. We look to the future, not the past. But let us remember what George Washington said:
“I wish the constitution, which is offered, had been made more perfect; but I sincerely believe it is the best that could be obtained at this time. And, as a constitutional door is opened for amendment hereafter, the adoption of it, under the present circumstances of the Union, is in my opinion desirable.”
Even our first President knew that the groundwork laid out back then was imperfect and flawed, but at least the future was always open to the possibility of progress and change. What wise men they were, our Founding Fathers!
Therefore, sempre avanti, which in Italian means, “always forward!” Indeed!
